Something Happy Happened
There is a lot of writing that I do simply for money. That’s the case for most writers, I think; you’d like to live in a world where all you create is for the love of it, but there are bills to be paid and mouths to feed and all that, and so sometimes you find yourself writing a 600-word essay on why someone should buy a green velvet couch.
Sometimes, though, the writing you do for money is writing that you also love, and those times are truly special. This past week I finished up work I’d been doing for WV Living magazine for one of my very favorite features of theirs: their annual Wonder Women of West Virginia in which they celebrate West Virginian women who are doing the work in their communities, exceeding what was believed to be possible, trying to build a more beautiful and equitable future for West Virginia and her people (and often with a family at home they are also responsible for), or simply making their home state very, very proud.
